About his name
I found it as an scandinavian name, and it means "Gift of God". But mostly it is an hebrew name, from the bible. And it has variations, well, it is a variation of Matthew... Let's check:

MATHIAS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: German, Scandinavian

MATTHIAS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Greek, English, German, Biblical.
Other scripts: Ματθιας (Greek)
Pronounced: ma-THIE-as

Variant of Ματθαιος (Matthaios) which appears in the New Testament as the name of the apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot.
This was also the name of kings of Hungary, including Matthias I who made important reforms to the kingdom in the 15th century.

[+] Matthew/Mathew:

[+] Mathias/Matthias:

Mathias Crovinus
Mathias Corvinus
(MÁTYÁS CORVINUS)

The most popular of all Hungarian Kings was Matthias Corvinus. Since 1301 he was the first Hungarian on the throne. The heraldic animal of the King was the raven. Because of the raven, King Matthias accepted the epithet Corvinus King Matthias (Mátyás) was born in Kolozsvár Transylvania. Under King Matthias Hungary also became one of the most powerful nations in Europe. King Matthias died 1490 at the young age of 47 and without accomplishing his dream ofeliminating the Turkish treat forever from Hungary and Europe. King Matthias was said to be cultured, wise, patient, brave, quickly decisive, self reliant, self assured and last but not least just.

As you can see, the similarities between King Corvinus and our Lord Cronqvist are acuurated. Probably our dear Ayami inspired the design on this character. In "Lament of Innocence", we heard about Mathias was one of the most educated men of that times.
- "His humanist education meant he spoke several languages, and he was cultured to a degree rarely seen among the aristocracy of his day."
Corvinus grew up in Transylvania and was a great monarch, and our Mathias became the Lord of the Night.

Also, it was supossedly that Corvinus fought alongside Vlad Dracula during the great war with the Turks and Ottomans.
Coincidence?
